Jono was Chief Executive Officer of the British Pharmacological Society between 2012 and 2019, having led the Communications and Development function from 2009. In that period, Jono worked with BPS staff team, trustees, and volunteers to develop the Society and support the advancement of pharmacology, clinical pharmacology and therapeutics. Membership numbers, income, and engagement with the BPS all grew over this period, while Jono led the delivery of the Society’s first long-term strategy and the establishment of its second.In January 2020, Jono took up a new position as Chief Executive Officer of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, one of the largest medical royal colleges in the UK. There, Jono has led a committed staff team in supporting the specialties of anaesthesia, critical care, and pain medicine.Jono is a passionate advocate for evidence in policy-making and public life. In 2020, he became chair of Sense About Science, and joined the board of trustees of the Science Media Centre.Jono is a graduate of Leeds University, with a degree in Theatre Arts.
